What Megan Fox and My Hubby Have in Common?

Well, it's been a while since the last time i posted anything on this blog. And tonite, when I was switching off the light and getting ready for my trip to lala land, I noticed that hubby forgot to switch off the computer. So, I thought, a new entry to my blog won't do an harm rite?

So, here I am. Started writing in the dark. But about what? That's when, I suddenly remember about Joyce Tan. She is my colleague, but very very close to my heart like a sister. I made a promise to show her what my hubby and Megan Fox has in common :)... after I discovered the fact in 'Harian Metro'.

Well Joyce,.. a picture speaks a thousand words, and here it is:

Penang Trip

August 10th, 2009

Today is Monday! I am reminding myself that it is a beginning of another week that I have to put in more than 60 working hours like any other weeks for the project that I am working now. The project has pretty crazy datelines and it has an integration which would be the first project of its kind we delivered.

Even though my body is extremely tired (for having to put in more than 60 hours in previous weeks and being shouted at mercilessly for doing a lousy things at times - this is my first time working on Stylesheet) but I am feeling great coz I managed to skip for a short get-away to Penang, my home sweet home. I guessed I really need that short break to rejuvenate my mind and heal my soul :P. Or probably just to treat myself to another enjoyable gastronomical adventure ;). But for whatever reason it might be… I am feeling great!!

We reached Penang early Saturday morning, at about 4am. Since our apartment has only 1 bed, we gave it up to the kids, which at that point having problem sleeping since they had slept throughout the whole journey. But then, they managed to sleep for another hour or so before Mr Sun made his introduction.

By the time the kids woke up, hubby and I were still fast asleep and only woke up when ‘baby’ walked into the room with “kesian, kesian, bilik abah ngan mama, tak ada kipas”. Hahahaha… it’s one of those moments when baby got wiser with her words. As always, we were amazed that she is wiser beyond her years.. and funny too.

After all of us got dressed, Mak Nah (that’s my MIL) informed us that fried meehoon was waiting for us. Like ‘orang mengantuk disorongkan bantal’, we quickly left the apartment and went straight to her place (at this time my tummy had played several round of keroncong songs). Afterwards, hubby and I went to hair salon because I can’t tolerate my itchy scalp any longer. Even though Scalp Treatment was a tad expensive, it was really worth it. My head feeling so light and all those itchiness disappeared.

Before lunch, I called Times bookstore to reserve a Jodi Picoult’s novel – My Sister’s Keeper which already in my radar for several weeks ;).

Opps.. forgot to mentioned that hubby got me a new phone (I-mobile 202) to replace my dinosaur-age Nokia (which I used a piece of paper to hold the switch in place ;)). It can do all those fancy function but at cost below RM200!!!! Waa wee.... It is great value for the money because I am not the one who is willing to spend a lot for a mobile phone! Thanks sayang. Love it so much :).

Reading

I have always like reading. I first started reading novels when I was busy preparing for SPM. Back then, my reading were limited that what my friend, Azniwatie rented from a bookstore in Tanjung Malim. Well, as you might expected, reading for teenage girl, my reading were mainly romance novels like Mills & Boon series, and those classic romances from Jude Deveraux etc.

However, during my undergraduate degree, I started reading those famous conspiracy novels from Sidney Sheldon and the likes of him which normally evolved around determined and strong will women.

Soon after I settled down, and having small babies and kids, reading became a luxury hobby. With most of my time need to be divided between house chores, work and looking after little ones, and reading is no longer possible.

Now, my youngest one is 5, and I think it will be a good time to start reading once again. The kids can take better care of themselves now, which leave some room for me to have a hobby ;). So, I re-started reading 3 months ago.

Unlike reading materials during my teenage years, this time I look for serious conspiracy and thrillers novels. Romance novels won’t make the cut probably because I already know that those things they will talked about are like walking in the clouds and does not happen in real world! Another strong reason probably due to the stereotype of the plot. Usually romance novels tend to evolve around boy meets girl, boy like girl, girl realize she feels the same way, they encountered some difficulties (something like ‘cinta terhalang’, which you normally have in Hindi movies), then they leave happily ever after.

Since 3 months ago, I managed to read the following:

Scarpentta – Patricia Cornwell
This is my first novel I read from Scarpetta series. Even though I like CSI a lot, but I don’t really like this one. I got lost in the first few chapters (probably I might be able to understand them better if I have read the other Scarpetta novels better prior to this – but I am quite skeptical). And I noticed that the content is a bit dry for me.

When Will There Be Good News? – Kate Atkinson
The story line is better than the first one. It is still within the same genre as the first one. However, I found the sentences are lyrical and funny. I tremendously enjoy the reading due to those sentences. And this book amazed me on the word choice and the creativity of the author to make beautiful and funny sentences; detailing events until you can almost picture yourself in the scene and see everything happening in front of your very eyes ;)

My Sister’s Keeper – Jodi Picoult
This is simply the best!!!! This is a tear-jerking novel. My heart goes all out to Anna, who is one of the main characters in the novel. This novel is now a major motion picture, but I haven’t seen it make its debut yet in Malaysia (I might be wrong since I am not an avid movie goer).

It also makes me wonder whether I have played favorite in treating my children. Coz the last thing I want is to have any of my children feeling left out like how Anna have felt. I don’t think I have right words to describe how good this book is except that “Next Monday, I will be going out to find another Jodi’s novel – 19 minutes. “. I am sure I will be looking for another one of her novels after that too.

MC

14th August 2009

I am on my second day of MC. When baby is down with fever, usually it will go up to 39~40C. Knowing her history of fit (febrile convulsion), it would be better if I stay home looking after her. I know that tones of work are waiting for me at the office, but I just have to be with her. There is no point for me to go to office, when all I can think of is her.

She is doing better now bcoz she seems to find it difficult to stop talking and speak her mind off ;). Furthermore she also managed to go to the net and watch Upin & Ipin, and Pingu on youtube, which she bookmarked on Mozilla. As I am writing this entry, we are fighting over on who gets to use the PC ;).

It always surprised me of what a 5 year old is capable of these days. She managed to turn on PC, go to streamyx and browse Internet without any assistance. How quickly time flies!!! It seems like it was just yesterday when I gave birth to her.

My schedule for today is quite packed.Afterwards, I need to complete those piles of laundry, which has been there for a few days since hubby and I were too busy looking after our sick children. Look likes a few more cycles to go.

And soon, I need to run to a nearby haberdashery to get materials for Neo's pillow project. Then, to bakery supplies for muffins and chocolate chips cookies for today’s tea…. Hmm…

I also need to ensure that the house is immaculate since my parents will be here during the weekends!!!!

Trip back to Penang & Anizam Wedding

July 6, 2009

It seemed like ages since the last time I updated this blog. I got so many things to write but haven’t have the luxury of doing so yet, well technically up till now.
We just come back from Penang (our dearest hometown – or we affectionately call heaven ;)). Being spoilt for so many choices of delectable cuisine foodies at affordable price, it is quite hard to find any place to call home except for Penang.
Our original plan was to travel down to PD or Malacca to spend the weekend since we hardly bring the kids to anywhere nice, which usually translated to places with nice swimming pools to the kids. Since it was our last minutes get-away plan, we soon found at that almost all rooms are fully booked. The ones available were outrageously priced!!! But, we terribly need somewhere to wind down especially me. And to take my mind off those tons of work, late nights at the office struggling to meet those crazy datelines. Furthermore, ‘baby’ just recovered from high fever she had last week, so I am dying to find a place to rejuvenate myself after burning mid-night-oils while nursing her back to pink of health; you should clearly get a clear picture of my mental state now ;). So, we decided to go back to Penang.
We departed from our house a few minutes after the clock strikes 10.30pm. Hubby was extremely excited since that was the first time he had the opportunity of taking a long drive after our brand new Grand Livina a few nights earlier ;). He called it ‘their getting-to-know session’. While he said that, I could almost see the sparkle in his eyes, and the kids and my existence were vanished in oblivion; just left him and the car, enjoying their moment.
Every 10 years, my hubby will have this tendency (or I called ‘naik syeh’) of getting a brand new car. The last time, this happened was in year 2000; after Hazim was born. At first, I was against it, but later I oblige to his request because I hate to see those ‘broken-hearted-expression’ in his eyes. Another reason probably because I hate of listening to his stories of how graceful the car moved (even comparing it to ‘ulat bulu’ or ‘caterpillar’ when the car taking a turn etc. And that is how we are going to refer it to from now on… hahahahaha). It got to point when I was travelling to work, I can remember all those stories like a broken record… And the only way to stop those stories was to agree to get us a new car ;).

We reached Penang at 3am, the kids had plenty of rest and were full of energy by the time we woke them up to get to our apartment. This was not a surprise at all considering ‘baby’ had converted the last row of the car seats to her ‘mini bed’.
After taking a couple of hours to continue our sleep, we woke up and started cleaning up our apartment before going to MIL’s house (Mak Nah). She was surprised to see us and we in turn surprised to get so many durians, mangosteens and rambutans greeted us :P.
After taking our breakfast, my hubby took Izreen to clinic since she has started to developed fever. After that, we left the kids and attended my hubby’s friend wedding in Yan, Kedah. I’m impressed on how much Kedah has changed. On the way to the ‘kenduri’ I kept snapping pictures of paddy fields and embraced by the serenity and tranquility of it. It was so peaceful. Reminding me of my childhood and how life seemed far less complicated that it is today. Obviously I made a wrong wish for asking to grow up faster.

After spending some time figuring out the misleading/missing signboard, we finally arrived at the wedding. We are lucky because the bride and groom just arrived; talking about perfect timing. The bride and groom looked very nice in their red ‘baju pengantin’. And for us, the food is very-very nice. Sambal tumis ikin bilis, prawn and french bean curry, kurma beef, cucumber and pineapple salad and few more other dishes. Yum Yum! We headed back to Penang only after taking photos with the ‘raja sehari’.

We then headed back to Penang to Ayu Mee Udang at Gertak Sanggul. They used to sell the same Mee Udang for RM8/= per plate. But, I guess due to the current economy outlook, they revised the price to RM12/= but still with those 3 big prawns!!! Since my camera was running out of batteries, I just could not share the picture with you to show how marvelous they were. I plan to bring my parents there the next time I come back, probably during Eid Mubarak long break.
That night, we went back to my parents’ house on mainland using ferry. Big big big mistake!!! We had to wait for 2 hours before the ferry arrived. By that time we decided not to wake up the kids because they already comfortable touring the lala land.
Abah and mak were very surprised to see us and I was happy and sad at the same time. Abah looked very tired. May be old age finally caught up with him. But he sure glad to see his grandchildren. The next morning, we went out for Radix fried chicken. Abah and mak were very happy to treat their grandchildren to halal KFC as they like to call it. It tasted very nice and crispy. Even though hubby and I supported Radix initiative in providing alternative to Muslim consumers; we both agreed that they should standardize the halal certificate and logo as the one they are using now is different by the ones issued by Jakim. This will surely eliminate any possible confusion people has over the halal logo. As for their claim on the fried chicken being organic, we suggested Radix to have certification on a trusted body on it. This will definitely boost up consumers’ confident and attract those health conscious people. This will help radix widen their consumer target; and not just limited to Muslim consumer.
We then went back packing out stuff and attending another wedding before heading back to KL. And feeling sad for having to bid them goodbye. Bye abah and mak, I’ll promised I will be back very very soon. To abah, take a good care of yourself, love you .. muaah..

Masak2 on the weekends...

I always like cooking; cooking to impress (I'm not that good), trying new recipes, feeding the 'piranhas' or just killing the time :).

There are a lot of things I have tried but I just managed to capture only 2 things that I have tried so far;
From masak-masak

1. Roti jala (a real hit with the kids). Can be served with curry or butter sauce.
2. Biskut kapal (with coconut as the 'muatan' ;)). This is my all-time favorite since I was little. MY mum's own recipes (for as long as I can remember). Also Uncle Yusop's favourite, which had passed away 2 years ago.

Meet the kids

They are the love of my life; Hazim Fathi(the eldest), Izreen Munira, and Nur Aleya Natasha a.k.a baby (obviously the youngest in the family). Their age gap is 2 years.

Hazim
He will be 9 soon; in a few months. He was born a few days before our first-date-second anniversary (we celebrate our first date even till now ;)). When I was pregnant with him, I could not take any beef or smell it. In my dictionary, 'morning sickness' bring a whole new meaning and did not limited to a certain period of day. I remember having one of them right before I gave birth to Hazim (right after having strawberries from Cameron Highland, courtesy of Syuhada, my SIL).

And on the blissful morning of 13th August 2000, 3.2 kg's Hazim was finally in my arms (soon after I regained my consciousness after heavy sedative began to sub-side - I had a C-section).I vividly remember how my hubby stayed up throughout the night, attended to all my needs and occasionally broke a few lame jokes to take my mind off the pain. Thanks Sayang.

Another thing that still fresh in my mind was the awkward way of my hubby's holding our newborn. He said that he had no experience of a holding the newborn. But now, he is an expert in holding a newborn ;).

In the second confinement week, I noticed that Hazim started to have running nose, and quickly referred him to the nearest doctor. The doctor gave him some medication along with some nose drop, to help unblock his nose congestion.

And when Hazim was 6 month old, I remembered he was restless and started to vomit every time I fed him. Despite my hubby assured me that everything would be okay, I still took the baby to see Dr. Lim, who is a excellent pediatrician. Hazim was immediately admitted to pediatric ward. This episode kept on repeating itself every couple of months until Hazim was two. From then, things got better.

On one occasion, my hubby went under the knife to fix his sinus problem. And Hazim happened to be warded as well. And my project's deployment seemed can't wait for a better time. I remembered going to work from hospital, coming back to look at them during lunch and going back to work after that. Immediately after work, I would come back to hospital and make sure that they were okay and put them to sleep. Only then, I started working on my project until a few hours before dawn to catch some sleep before going off to work for another day. Luckily, my dearest mum helped me out to look after them when I was out for work. And poor mum, she even wept for having her daughter to go through such a difficult time.

Hazim continued to go in and out of hospital until he was two, and discharged two (2) hours before we took flight to UK; to further my study.

Now, he is a healthy boy and hardly have his asthma attack anymore. Just occasionally, when the weather get really bad; i.e. the recent haze we have now. Me and hubby are glad that we took all the early precautions and initiatives :).

To Hazim, if you ever read this one day, abah and mama love you so much. And we really hope that you will be happy and healthy; always. Take care of yourself and love yourself first before you love others. And remember to stand strong coz life can have unexpected turns at times. And it is not a crime for big boys to cry (as long as you don't do it in public ;)). And most importantly, remember your religion to guide you through.

An afternoon @ Mega Lane on 14th June 2009

From Bowling at Mega Lane

We went to Mega Lane for my hubby's company bowling tournament last Sunday. It has been ages since the last time he played in one. The tournament should have started at 2.30pm but we got delayed by 1/2 hour searching for a parking space.

At first, the kids were ecstatic when we got there and showed their full support to dear 'abah'. However, that just lasted for about 15 minutes!!!!!. Soon, they nagged me for ice-cream and wish to retire to the nearby cafe.

In the hope of getting hubby to have better focus on his play, I obliged. Unfortunately, their 'ice-cream' turned out to be ice-cream + fried nice + nasi lemak + milk shake etc. If only I knew!!!!

The cafe was quite nice and located next to several aquariums. Hazim, my eldest made a remark about a fish that he thought was quite lazy. The conversation went like this:

Hazim: Mama, kenapa ikan tu malas saja?
Me(concentrating on my novel): ikan tu tengah cuti.
Hazim: Mama, bertuahnya ikan tu. Tak macam abang, esok dah nak kena sekolah, qiraati lagi, nak buat homework lagi etc. Bestnya hidup ikan tu... Kalau lah hidup abang macam tu.
Me (no longer looking at the book): Errm...

By the time we finished the meals, the tournament just ended. So, I missed most of the game :(.

Anyway, I'm proud of you sayang. Though you may not win any prizes that afternoon but I am sure you have enjoyed the game :).

Bila Diri Disayangi

Terdengar bisikan mesra
Kalimah keramat bermentara
Bermulanya siang berakhir malam ku
Tak akan ku jemu menyebut namamu

Tiada batasan waktu
Tiada tempat mu tertentu
Di gunung di lembah, di darat, di air
Siapa pun hamba, keikhlasan doa, keagungan
Kasih merubah takdir

(korus)
Bila ku sedari diri disayangi
Langkah kaki ini semakin berani
Bila terkeliru ku ucap namamu, terasa diriku
Kembali dipandu

Engkau pertama, tiada akhirnya
Aku dalam kegelapan engkaulah cahaya
Izinkahlah aku menumpang di sini
Di bawah naungan kasih dan sayang mu
Ku berserah diri

I have always like Amir Ukay’s voice. However, he has done exceptionally well with this one. With his superb voice, melancholic melody and killer lyrics; it almost bring me to tears.

The chorus is the one that affect me the most; it goes straight to the heart. Being reminded that He will always be there for me and love me unconditionally; regardless of what I did. He will always be there even when I think my world is about to crumble down or I am at the lowest point of my life.

This also reminded me that I am blessed for being surrounded with wonderful hubby, marvelous parents, lovely kids, superb in-laws.

Alhamdulillah… to Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate. Let grant us peace, love, joy and blessings in the name of Islam around the world, and in our home. Showed us the right path , and allow us the will and time to be closer to you.Amin…

SIL Wedding 6th June 2009

We went back to Penang in early June for our lil' sister wedding. This is extra special considering she is the last one in the family to wed ;).

The wedding was held on Saturday, June the 6th. However, I had started my leave 2 days earlier because there were so many things to complete before the BIG day!!!! (As if it was my own wedding hahahaha). There were 100 muffins to bake, 7 ekin tudungs to be made, beads on bride scarfs to be sewn and biscuits to be bake for the groom. In the end, I managed to complete all except for the biscuits :(. Anyway, we gave muffins to the groom instead of biscuits.

Despite all the problems we encountered before the wedding, it turned out very very well. More photos can be found here : here

Last but not least, Selamat Pengantin Baru for Syuhada and Nizam!!!! Semoga berkekalan hingga ke anak cucu :)

Busy...

My life was on fast track since mid December 2008 till now. There were so many things to do in such a short time:

- It started off with 2 weddings (my brother and SIL) in the same week. I had to bake batches of biscuits for 'hantaran', which took approximately 12 hours to complete :(.

- Another 'kenduri' on the groom side followed fortnight later, where more than 20 people stayed at my house. As soon as they came, we had a few of 'rombongan cik kiah' to relatives homes since they came a few days earlier than the wedding date.

- At work, I was assigned as a lead in a project, which my high-spirited team and me (of course) managed to complete, even though slightly behind schedule :(. Thanks to my wonderful PM for showing his support and guidance. I had learn so much.

- And.. urrgggghhhh... appraisal time!!!! I managed to complete all appraisals for my line reports on time too!, well may be the first line manager to be able to complete it in our reginal office ;)

- I have started my baking business too last week.... muffin!!!

- DIY tudung, thanks to cupcake, esme and kak yela for their guidance on making my own tudung. My proud creations can be viewed at http://picasaweb.google.com/safizasalleh/Diy_tudung?feat=directlink . During the wedding, my mum helped me to promote my diy_tudung and I have received 3 confirmed orders.. yay.... thanks mak... love you so much!!!!

- Annual Dinner... Attended company's annual dinner last night, and I was a co-emcee for the night!!!! though it is far from perfect, but I am proud for having the courage to try something new ;)

Hopefully my life will be calmer this week... but I am not sure whether that's gonna happen.. let's see
