It seemed like ages since the last time I updated this blog. I got so many things to write but haven’t have the luxury of doing so yet, well technically up till now.
We just come back from Penang (our dearest hometown – or we affectionately call heaven ;)). Being spoilt for so many choices of delectable cuisine foodies at affordable price, it is quite hard to find any place to call home except for Penang.
Our original plan was to travel down to PD or Malacca to spend the weekend since we hardly bring the kids to anywhere nice, which usually translated to places with nice swimming pools to the kids. Since it was our last minutes get-away plan, we soon found at that almost all rooms are fully booked. The ones available were outrageously priced!!! But, we terribly need somewhere to wind down especially me. And to take my mind off those tons of work, late nights at the office struggling to meet those crazy datelines. Furthermore, ‘baby’ just recovered from high fever she had last week, so I am dying to find a place to rejuvenate myself after burning mid-night-oils while nursing her back to pink of health; you should clearly get a clear picture of my mental state now ;). So, we decided to go back to Penang.
We departed from our house a few minutes after the clock strikes 10.30pm. Hubby was extremely excited since that was the first time he had the opportunity of taking a long drive after our brand new Grand Livina a few nights earlier ;). He called it ‘their getting-to-know session’. While he said that, I could almost see the sparkle in his eyes, and the kids and my existence were vanished in oblivion; just left him and the car, enjoying their moment.
Every 10 years, my hubby will have this tendency (or I called ‘naik syeh’) of getting a brand new car. The last time, this happened was in year 2000; after Hazim was born. At first, I was against it, but later I oblige to his request because I hate to see those ‘broken-hearted-expression’ in his eyes. Another reason probably because I hate of listening to his stories of how graceful the car moved (even comparing it to ‘ulat bulu’ or ‘caterpillar’ when the car taking a turn etc. And that is how we are going to refer it to from now on… hahahahaha). It got to point when I was travelling to work, I can remember all those stories like a broken record… And the only way to stop those stories was to agree to get us a new car ;).

We reached Penang at 3am, the kids had plenty of rest and were full of energy by the time we woke them up to get to our apartment. This was not a surprise at all considering ‘baby’ had converted the last row of the car seats to her ‘mini bed’.
After taking a couple of hours to continue our sleep, we woke up and started cleaning up our apartment before going to MIL’s house (Mak Nah). She was surprised to see us and we in turn surprised to get so many durians, mangosteens and rambutans greeted us :P.
After taking our breakfast, my hubby took Izreen to clinic since she has started to developed fever. After that, we left the kids and attended my hubby’s friend wedding in Yan, Kedah. I’m impressed on how much Kedah has changed. On the way to the ‘kenduri’ I kept snapping pictures of paddy fields and embraced by the serenity and tranquility of it. It was so peaceful. Reminding me of my childhood and how life seemed far less complicated that it is today. Obviously I made a wrong wish for asking to grow up faster.

After spending some time figuring out the misleading/missing signboard, we finally arrived at the wedding. We are lucky because the bride and groom just arrived; talking about perfect timing. The bride and groom looked very nice in their red ‘baju pengantin’. And for us, the food is very-very nice. Sambal tumis ikin bilis, prawn and french bean curry, kurma beef, cucumber and pineapple salad and few more other dishes. Yum Yum! We headed back to Penang only after taking photos with the ‘raja sehari’.

We then headed back to Penang to Ayu Mee Udang at Gertak Sanggul. They used to sell the same Mee Udang for RM8/= per plate. But, I guess due to the current economy outlook, they revised the price to RM12/= but still with those 3 big prawns!!! Since my camera was running out of batteries, I just could not share the picture with you to show how marvelous they were. I plan to bring my parents there the next time I come back, probably during Eid Mubarak long break.
That night, we went back to my parents’ house on mainland using ferry. Big big big mistake!!! We had to wait for 2 hours before the ferry arrived. By that time we decided not to wake up the kids because they already comfortable touring the lala land.
Abah and mak were very surprised to see us and I was happy and sad at the same time. Abah looked very tired. May be old age finally caught up with him. But he sure glad to see his grandchildren. The next morning, we went out for Radix fried chicken. Abah and mak were very happy to treat their grandchildren to halal KFC as they like to call it. It tasted very nice and crispy. Even though hubby and I supported Radix initiative in providing alternative to Muslim consumers; we both agreed that they should standardize the halal certificate and logo as the one they are using now is different by the ones issued by Jakim. This will surely eliminate any possible confusion people has over the halal logo. As for their claim on the fried chicken being organic, we suggested Radix to have certification on a trusted body on it. This will definitely boost up consumers’ confident and attract those health conscious people. This will help radix widen their consumer target; and not just limited to Muslim consumer.
We then went back packing out stuff and attending another wedding before heading back to KL. And feeling sad for having to bid them goodbye. Bye abah and mak, I’ll promised I will be back very very soon. To abah, take a good care of yourself, love you .. muaah..
